Summer Recap – 2016

This summer has been incredibly busy and filled with wonderful events, lots of writing, and working with several narrators to release audiobooks.

First, for some VERY exciting news! Barnes and Noble in Vancouver, WA is now carrying Black Rose, the first novel in the bestselling Black Rose Guard dark fantasy series!

If you are in the area, feel free to check it out!

Second, Audiobook news! Black Rose, Heart of the Rose, Heir to Kale & Heir to Koloso are now available in audiobook format through Amazon, Audible, and iTunes. Brought to life by wonderful narrators, these are great editions of the novels for anyone who enjoys audiobooks and I could not be more excited.

Blood Rose will also become available  in Feb. of 2017.

The summer itself began with the second annual Words on the Vine Book Signing at Bethany Vineyards in WA, featuring seven amazing authors who gathered together to share their love of literature with fans.

For those who don’t know, Greg, in addition to being a wonderful friend, is also the author of The Life and Undead of Mortimer Drake Vampire series and the Neither Nor series. We had a wonderful time visiting with friends, discussing the finer arts of writing and showing off our (less-than-stellar) bowling skills.

Next, I attended the Author Palooka signing in Mesquite, Nevada over the summer.  I enjoyed spending the day with fellow authors and getting to meet new readers!

The trip though began with a few days hanging out in California where I had the great privilege of visiting with several friends who also happen to be fellow authors and artists. I had a wonderful lunch with wonderful friends Becket & Stina.

Becket is an author in his own right, of The Blood Vivicanti and Key the Steampunk Vampire Girl. If you’re unfamiliar with his writing, I highly recommend checking out his books here: http://www.becket.me

I also have a wonderful night visiting with my friend and the artist of the incredible map featured in my Rise of the Temple Gods novels, Raven Quinn.

She is also a wonderful singer/songwriter. More information on her work can be found here: http://www.ravenquinn.com

After California and the signing, I spent a few additional days in Las Vegas. We gambled a little, saw a few shows, including the incredible Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil, which I would recommend for any lover Jackson’s music.

We also went to the Siegfried and Roy Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat where we met not only the animals, but happen to run into Siegfried himself!

I also attended the annual PDX vampire ball.

Traditionally held in early spring, the event instead took place in June this year. It was a wonderful event featuring, great music, fun drinks, gorgeous gowns, and of course a traditional midnight waltz.

I also attended a fun writers workshop at the local Barnes and Noble lead by my long-time friend and writing mentor, the amazing NYT Bestselling Author Lilith Saintcrow!

What’s Next?

This weekend I will be attending Rose City Comic Con – photos coming!

October 19th – Rise of the Temple Gods: Heir to the Defendants, book 3 will be released. Cover & Synopsis coming soon!

2017 – Much more coming including the release of both book 4 in The Black Rose Guard series – Silver Rose and the first in a series of side-stories, Shadow of the Rose!

Words on the Vine

Rusty Grape Book Signing – Dec. 13, 2014

Black Rose book

Saturday night was the first annual Words on the Vine book signing at Rusty Grape Vineyards in Battle Ground, WA! The night was a great success with good wine, good friends, and great readings provided by the attending authors. The authors were, from left to right:

K.L Bone (me), Greg Wilkey, Sarah M. Cradit, Brandy L. Rivers and Alys B. Cohen.

The night began at 5pm when everyone began to arrive and continued until almost 8. Once everyone was settled with wine and pizza, the actual reading began. For the first part of the signing, each of the featured authors read various chapters from their featured novels. It was great to be able to sit and listen to authors share both their work and their passion for writing with the gathered audience. Brandy started us off by graciously agreeing to speak first, followed by Alys and Sarah who all read from their paranormal romance/fantasy series.  Brandy has published multiple books in her Others of Edenton series and Sarah, who I met in New Orleans at the Anne Rice conference, writes a single series titled The House of Crimson and Clover.  Then Alys is working on a trilogy, the first book titled: Sacred Blood.

There was a short break before my own reading where I read the first chapter of my newest book release, Black Rose, and my brother in his far more animated voice, agreed to step in and read a chapter from my YA series, Rise of the Temple Gods: Heir to Kale. This was followed by a reading from our out-of-town guest speaker, the wonderful Greg Wilkey, who treated listeners to a reading from his newest book release, Death Runs in the Family, the first book in his newest YA, Neither Nor Series.

After the reading the panel participated in a Q & A, answering some interesting questions from the audience which ranged from our inspirations, to our writing methods, to specific questions about our individual texts. The group as a whole had some great answers and thoughts to share with listeners.

After the Q & A the authors took some time to speak with fans both old and new, sign books, and to chat both amongst themselves and with others. A special shout out to Shane and Taletha – it was so great to meet you both! Also to Kate for making the drive up to the vineyard, I loved seeing you there!

I was also surprised with a cake by a friend, Barbara, decorated with Black Roses in celebration of the release of my newest novel!

I also owe a big thank you to Heather and Jeremy, the owners of the Rusty Grape Vineyard, for allowing us to use the venue for the event! I am so appreciative of your kindness and generosity. Also to Tracy for manning the sales table and helping to take care of book sales while the authors were busy talking.

Finally again, a thank you to the authors who came out to speak and to make the evening a success! Especially to my fellow author and friend, Greg, who flew in all the way from Tennessee to attend the event!
